One of the major concerns in providing health care and life services to the older adult is focused upon offering care in ways that reach beyond the institutionalized methods, organization and delivery of such care. This seminar will focus on the entire interdisciplinary team's effort to effectively recognize and treat pain in creative ways. The program also speaks to the health professional's ability to maintain the dignity of the individual and influencing the life experience of the older adult in positive and progressive ways.
Learning Objectives:
- Review clinical conditions that contribute to chronic pain
- Recognize the impact of non-clinical factors on the pain experience
- Discuss the non-verbal signs of pain
- Identify elements of a comprehensive care plan
- Explore the contribution each discipline makes in developing a strong team approach to pain management
- Discuss traditional modalities and alternative methods to develop more creative and effective treatment options in pain management.
