Neil BeresinNEIL BERESIN, M.ED, BA
has a diverse background in psychology and education, and experience in geriatric case management and family crisis intervention. He was Regional Director for the Pennsylvania Restraint Reduction Initiative (PARRI) from 1996 to 2006. In his current role as Product Manager of Collage, The Art and Science of Aging®, Neil manages communication and promotion, program development, and member education and services.

 

 

RUTH BISH, RN
has extensive nursing experience, having been a staff member, RNAC, and assistant director of nursing in long term care. Since 2000, she has been a nurse educator for the Pennsylvania Nursing Care Facilities Best Practices Project. Ruth’s primary areas of expertise are implementation of quality improvement protocols in areas such as depression, pain, incontinence, pressure ulcers, functional improvement, and improvement in quality of life through a systematic paradigm shift process. She is currently co-staffing PANPHA's Center for Innovation, along with Janet Davis.

 

 

JANET DAVIS, BA, ACC
has been a Certified Activities Director since 1991, a Certified Activities Consultant since 1997, and has over 25 years’ experience in long-term care with particular expertise in dementia care, activity planning, fall management, and safe bed systems. She has been a regional director for the Pennsylvania Restraint Reduction Initiative for the past 10 years. Janet is currently co-staffing PANPHA's Center for Innovation, along with Ruth Bish.

 

 

 

BERYL D. GOLDMAN, Ph.D, RN, NHA, Director for Kendal Outreach, LLC,
plays a critical role in facilitating restraint free policies and care practices. Currently, she oversees the Pennsylvania Restraint Reduction Initiative, which received a grant for its 16th year in July of 2011; and the implementation portion of The Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Best Practices Project, a five-year project which ended in 2006; and also led the implementation for a one-year project, Models to improve Care, sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health. Currently, Beryl serves as Project Director for the federal Health Resources and Services Administration Nursing Education, Practice and Retention Grant in partnership with Widener University. This three-year grant is designed to improve the quality of care provided in nursing homes in the Delaware Valley by offering leadership training to nursing leaders working in long-term care. In addition, Beryl serves as the Outreach Leader for the national Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup, which includes representatives of academia, the health care industry, and government working together for safety.

 

SADIE MITCHELL, Ph.D., RN

is a Regional Coordinator for PARRI since 2010. Her extensive background in LTC includes positions of Director of Nursing, charge nurse, nurse’s aide, and staff educator. She has held faculty positions at several universities in both undergraduate nursing and RN refresher programs. She has extensive experience working with community-dwelling older adults as well. Her special interests include quality of care, qualitative research, and issues involving leadership, staff education, spirituality, and resident/client and provider relationships. In her current role with PARRI, she works with facilities to increase the effectiveness of their pressure ulcer prevention, fall management, and behavior management programs.

 

 

Alice M. MooreALICE M. MOORE, LNHA, RN, MPA

is Nurse Educator for Leading Nurses. She has more than 25 years of experience in a variety of positions in health care administration, clinical bedside nursing, and public health policy. She has had extensive experience with training and education at multiple Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), universities, and numerous projects for state agencies, including home- and community-based implementation of assessment and quality assurance programs using standardized assessment tools and qualitative outcomes. She has special interests in data-driven outcomes related to educational competency working with hands-on staff and development of online testing data to guide curriculum development and application. In her current role with Leading Nurses, she works with participants to enhance their leadership and management skills in the implementation protocols to improve the effectiveness of pressure ulcer prevention, improvement of activities of daily living, pain and mood disorder identification and management.

 

Kashmira Narinesingh-Smith KASHMIRA NARINESINGH-SMITH, M.ED

has worked in the not-for-profit sector for 12 years, primarily in higher education and state government.  She served in a variety of roles in higher education within academic and student affairs, including supervising Cooperative Education and Service Learning, directing First Year Experience, teaching, advising and providing academic support to undergraduate students. Preceding her tenure in higher education, she worked for the State of Maryland in Human Resources. She is the Executive Assistant for Kendal Outreach and Project Coordinator for Leading Nurses.

 

 

KAREN RUSSELL, RN

has 28 years of professional nursing experience in acute and long-term care settings, practicing as a staff nurse, admissions coordinator and staff development coordinator. She has served as a regional director for the Pennsylvania Restraint Reduction Initiative since July, 1998; her expertise is in physical and chemical restraint reduction, fall management, bed and side rail safety, comprehensive assessment processes, and resident-family-staff relationships.
